What If HQ is an independent publication about thought experiments for everyday life. We take one unusual change—such as reversing a family rule, making workplace feedback public, or removing privacy for a day—and examine what could reasonably happen next.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the site is not to predict the future or provide professional counseling. It is to help readers notice assumptions, compare consequences, and think about familiar relationships from a different angle. A useful thought experiment should do more than repeat the question. It should define the scenario, consider different people, identify tradeoffs, and explain where the imaginary situation connects with real life.

What Makes an Article Useful
Each substantial article follows a scenario-specific structure rather than a universal template. Depending on the question, an article may include a timeline, stakeholder comparison, decision table, boundary test, short fictional example, or reflection checklist. These elements are used only when they clarify the question.
We distinguish between three kinds of statements: the rules of the imaginary scenario, reasoned inferences about what might follow, and factual information about the real world. When a real-world claim needs outside support, the article should identify an appropriate source. Speculation is presented as speculation, not as established psychological or scientific fact.

Articles are published by What If HQ. The site does not rely on an unverified professional title to establish trust. Readers can evaluate an article through the clarity of its reasoning, the transparency of its assumptions, the quality of any sources used, and the usefulness of its conclusions.
